Agree or Disagree Essay là dạng câu hỏi thường xuất hiện trong bài thi IELTS Writing Task 2. Điểm quan trọng khi làm dạng bài này là bạn phải thể hiện rõ quan điểm một cách mạch lạc, có thể tán thành hoặc phản đối miễn là hợp lý.

• Dạng Causes and Solutions/ Causes and Effects/ Problems and Solutions Essay

Yêu cầu phần thi IELTS Writing Task 2

Bài luận trong Task 2 có độ dài tối thiểu là 250 chữ. Với yêu cầu đưa ra ý kiến, trình bày vấn đề, cách giải quyết, xem xét điểm mạnh/yếu ,… tùy vào nội dung cụ thể.

Để được band điểm cao, bạn cần phải thể hiện được các kỹ năng:

• Đưa ra thông tin cơ bản và thực tế (có trong đề bài).
• Phán đoán, phân tích vấn đề và tìm hướng giải quyết.
• Diễn đạt, triển khai ý một cách mạch lạc và logic.

II. Tổng quan về dạng bài Agree or Disagree Essay

1. Yêu cầu chung

Bạn sẽ nhận được một đề bài về vấn đề xã hội phổ biến. Từ đó bạn phải lựa chọn đồng ý/không đồng ý với vấn đề hay đôi khi là đồng ý một phần. Để bài viết thêm phần thuyết phục, bạn phải đưa ra luận điểm, luận cứ, ví dụ mình họa trong khi lập luận. Phải đủ 4 yêu cầu sau bạn mới đạt được điểm cao:

• Task Response: Phần trả lời liên quan trực tiếp đến câu hỏi, nắm rõ khía cạnh của chủ đề và tối thiểu là 250 từ.
• Coherence and Cohesion: Bài viết phải logic, lập luận chặt chẽ và phải dễ hiểu.
• Lexical Resource: Cách dùng từ phong phú, tự nhiên, linh hoạt.
• Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Khả năng dùng cấu trúc câu thành thạo, chính xác là một trong những yêu cầu của bài viết.

2. Dấu hiệu nhận biết dạng bài agree or disagree

Với dạng bài Agree or Disagree Essay này. Câu hỏi thường có 2 phần, phần 1 là luận điểm hay quan điểm đối với một vấn đề cụ thể và phần 2 là phần câu hỏi hay có dạng như sau:

• What is your opinion?
• Do you agree or disagree?
• To what extent or disagree?

3. Cấu trúc bài viết dạng Agree or Disagree Essay

Một bài viết chuẩn của dạng đề Agree or Disagree Essay trong phần thi IELTS Writing Task 2 bao gồm các phần:

Introduction

Ở phần này, bạn chỉ cần hướng đến mục đích chính là giới thiệu cho người đọc câu trả lời của mình (đòng ý/đồng ý một phần/không đồng ý) đối với vấn đề của đề bài.

Lưu ý: Bạn nên trả lời một cách trực tiếp, tránh vòng vo nếu không muốn bị mất điểm. Chỉ cần 2-3 câu cho phần mở bài là đủ.

Body

Đây là nơi bạn trình bày các luận điểm của mình. Thông thường phải có ít nhất 2 đoạn văn cho 2 luận điểm tương ứng.

• Cho dù bạn có đồng ý với đề bài hay không, thì bạn cũng phải đưa đủ luận điểm rõ ràng và hợp lý để người đọc hiểu được sự lựa chọn của bạn.
• Nếu bạn chỉ đồng ý một phần, bạn phải chỉ ra được điểm đồng ý, điểm không đồng ý như thế nào. Kèm theo là lời giải thích và ví dụ cụ thể.

Conclusion

Không giống như IELTS Writing Task 1, Task 3 bắt buộc bạn phải có kết luận nếu muốn bài viết hoàn chỉnh nhất. Vì nó sẽ tóm tắt lại câu trả lời của bạn, thường sẽ tầm 1-3 câu để chốt ý của toàn bài.

Lưu ý: Không được viết y chang đoạn mở bài vào phần kết bài, bên cạnh đó đừng thêm luận điểm nào trong phần kết luận của mình.

III. Hướng dẫn viết dạng bài agree or disagree essay

1. Phân tích đề và xác định các trả lời

Với dạng đề agree or disagree essay, bạn có 2 cách để trả lời:

• One-sided answer: Đồng ý/Không đồng ý với vấn đề.
• Balance answer: Đồng ý một phần.

Vì vậy sau khi đọc kỹ đề bài, bạn phải có câu trả lời cho tình huống ngay để xác định hướng viết bài.

Nếu bạn không biết xác định quan điểm nào thì hãy chọn hướng dễ viết nhất, vì IELTS là kỳ thi đánh giá năng lực sử dụng tiếng Anh chứ không phải kiểm tra kiến thức xã hội.

2. Lập dàn ý

Nhiều thí sinh cho rằng lập dàn ý chỉ tốn thêm thời gian và không thực sự cần thiết. Nó chỉ đúng một phần, vì giám khảo chỉ chấm bài viết trong tờ giấy trả lời. Tuy nhiên, nếu không “vẽ” sẵn đường, đôi khi bạn sẽ viết lan man, không đúng trọng tâm và nhiều sự cố đáng tiếc.

Nếu lập dàn ý, bạn sẽ mất khoảng 5 phút. Nhưng đổi lại, ý tưởng, luận điểm, luận cứ được sắp xếp hệ thống. Lúc đó, bạn chỉ cần bám vào dàn bài mà viết thôi.

3. Viết bài agree or disagree essay

Sau khi lập dàn ý, chúng ta tiến hành viết bài nào.

a. Introduction:

Phần này gồm 2 phần chính:

Phần 1 – Giới thiệu chủ đề

Trong phần mở đầu, bạn phải cho người đọc biết mình viết về chủ đề gì. Cách nhanh chóng và hiệu quả nhất để viết câu chủ đề là paraphrase lại câu hỏi.

Cấu trúc hay dùng:

• It is a common belief that S + V
• Many people hold the view that S + V

Phần 2 – Câu trả lời dạng bài agree or disagree

Phần này chúng ta tiến hành trả lời câu hỏi của đề bài. Bạn chỉ có thể đồng ý, không đồng ý hoặc đồng ý một phần vì sao lựa chọn như vậy. Lưu ý việc lập dàn ý rất quan trọng đảm bảo tính logic của cả bài.

• Cấu trúc câu thường dùng cho balance answer:

While I think S + V, I agree/ disagree with the view that + S + V

b. Body

Mỗi luận điểm nên viết riêng một đoạn và mỗi đoạn nên có 3 phần:

Body 1: On the one hand, it is reasonable to provide financial support for wildlife protections. In face, by saving wild animals, humans are saving themselves. To begin with, wild animals may hold the keys to certein medical breakthroughs, just as many of modern medicines are based on compounds found in plants. Moreover, humans, animals and other forms of life all form a giant ecosystem whereby each part can influence the others. If a certein animal becomes less common, this, in turn, will reduce the population of the animals that prey on it, which is more likely to disrupt the ecological balance and eventually threatens the survival of human society.

Body 2: However, it is sometimes difficult for people to accept that these perfectly legitimate reasons outweigh the immediate requirements of the human population. If money is not available to people who have problems such as mental illness, physical disabilities, or to those living in dire poverty, it is inevitable that some will suggest spending less on wild animals. There is a strong argument that by spending more on the education of humans, we could make the world a better place for us and for wild animals

Trong phần kết bài, chúng ta sẽ tóm tắt lại câu trả lời. Và một điều cần lưu ý, các bạn không được bổ sung thêm ý kiến hay ghi y chang mở bài ở phần này.

4. Kiểm tra lại bài

Đừng bỏ phí những phút cuối cùng, bạn có thể đọc lại và sửa chữa các lỗi sai chính tả, ngữ pháp cho bài viết hoàn thiện hơn. Sau cho cùng, phần ngữ pháp và từ vựng chiếm 50% số điểm của bạn.

Ví dụ: Có một số lỗi ở những đoạn ví dụ trên như:

• There can be little doubt that in recent decades a lot of time and money have been spent on protecting wild animals.

⇒ Time and money: danh từ không đếm được ⇒ “have” sai ⇒ sửa lại: has been spent

• In fact, by save wild animals, humans are saving themselves.

⇒ By save wild animals ⇒ by saving wild animals.

• If a certain animal become less common, this, in turn, will reduce the population of the animals that prey on it, which is more likely to disrupt the ecological balance and eventually threatens the survival of human society.

IV. Một số mẹo trong cách viết agree or disagree essay

1. Khi viết bài cần chú ý

• Nếu không có quá nhiều ý tưởng, bạn nên theo hướng ủng hộ thay vì phản đối. Vì nó luôn chiếm ưu thế so với bên còn lại hơn.
• Nếu có khả năng bạn nên đồng ý một phần, không nên thiên hoàn toàn về bất cứ bên nào. Việc lập luận sắc bén thay cho bài luận đơn giản sẽ giúp bạn đạt điểm cao hơn.
• Để tăng tính thuyết phục, bạn nên có cụm từ biểu hiện phản đối luận điểm của mở bài hoặc kết bài.

Ví dụ:

Phần mở bài: Luôn có sự tranh luận về ảnh hưởng, tác động của việc sử dụng túi nilon. Tôi không phủ nhận tính hữu dụng của túi nilon. Nhưng tôi cũng nhận thấy rằng ở một mức độ nào đó túi nilon đang gây ra những vấn đề về môi trường và việc tái chế túi nilon vẫn ngoài khả năng của chúng ta.

Phần kết bài: Tôi thừa nhận là túi nilon thực sự hữu dụng và là một tính đột phá trong vật liệu do con người tạo ra. Tuy nhiên, tôi có suy nghĩ rằng mặt có hại của việc sử dụng nilon nhiều hơn là có lợi.

2. Sử dụng từ mở đầu

Để bài viết được đánh giá cao, bạn có thể thay thế những từ For, Nor, Yet, And, But, Or, So ở đầu câu thành những cụm như:

• • • • For = It stands to the reason that….
      • Nor = There is little likelihood that…
      • Yet = However, Nevertheless
      • And = In addition, Moreover, Furthermore, Additionally
      • But = However, Nevertheless
      • Or = In addition, Moreover, Furthermore, Additionally
      • So = “In addition”, “Moreover, Furthermore, Additionally”

3. Cách lấy ví dụ:

• (Mệnh đề): for example,…
• The most prime/principal example of this matter may be that…
• Nothing is more obvious than the example of…

V. Bài mẫu dạng Agree or Disagree essay trong IELTS Writing

Some people think that all teenagers should be required to do unpaid work in there freetime to help the local community. They believe this would benefit both the individual teenager and society as a whole. Do you agree or disagree?

Many young people work on a volunteer basis, and this can only be beneficial for both the individual and society as a whole. However, I do not agree that we should therefore force all teenagers to do unpaid work.

Most young people are already under enough pressure with their studies with their studies, without being given the added responsibility of working in their spare time. School is just as demanding as a full-time job, and teachers expect their students to do homework and exam revision on top of attending lessons every day.

When young people do have some free time, we should encourage them to enjoy it with their friends or to spend it doing sports and other leisure activities. They have many years of work ahead of them when they finish their studies.

At the same time, I do not believe that society has anything to gain from obliging young people to do unpaid work. In fact, I would argue that it goes against the values of a free and fair society to force group of people to do something against their will. Doing this can only lead to resentment amongst young people, who would feel that they were being used, and parents, who would not want to be told how to raise their children.Currently, nobody is forced to volunteer, and this is surely the best system.

In conclusion, teenager may choose to work for free and help others, but in my opinion we should not make this compulsory.

There are individuals who think that parents who send their kids to private schools should not be obligated to pay taxes that fund public schools. However, I disagree with this stance.

Firstly, it would be challenging to determine the appropriate tax reduction for these families, and it would require additional staff to handle this complicated process. Secondly, we all contribute to public services that we might not use, and we don’t expect a tax reduction for that. For instance, most people don’t need to call the police or fire department during their lives. Finally, if wealthy families receive a tax discount for choosing private schools, this could lead to a situation where poorer individuals pay higher taxes than the rich.

In my view, we should all be willing to contribute to public schools’ financial support. It is advantageous for everyone to have a high-quality education system with equal opportunities for all students. This will lead to a skilled workforce and a more productive and prosperous nation. Even parents who choose private schools could benefit from this, such as business owners who require capable and well-educated staff that public schools could provide.

To summarize, I believe that no financial benefits should be provided to those who opt for private education.

We cannot help everyone in the world that needs help, so we should only be concerned with our own communities and countries. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

It is true that we are living in a global village. Every country of the world is connected to each other and every individual has a role to play in the society. Some people think that one cannot help everyone in the society who is in need. Therefore, people should only show the concern to the inhabitants of his own country and community. I completely disagree with the statement for the following reason.

Firstly, every nation today is interdependent on each other. Though, some nations are wealthier than others or require their basic needs for food, clothing and shelter to be fulfilled. According to me, countries that are well to do can help poorer countries to overcome their poverty. For example, some developing nations that had faced natural calamity require financial help to raise their economy. This is possible when another country is willing to do so. This not only provides support to affected country but also helps to develop international relationships and thus can enhance international trade. Furthermore, many countries like India face problems of unemployment. Other developed nations can resolve this problem by providing job opportunity to the immigrants. These can be achieved in their country to be served by some skilful individuals which, thereby, affects the economic development of the country.

Above all, we all are human beings and inhabitants of this wonderful planet, Earth. We all share the same biology. Therefore, it is needless to say that all should be helpful to each other. Humans make the world and humanity should make a better society. Today many worldwide organisations have been formed to sponsor people of different countries or in need. For instance, World Vision, an Australian organisation that sponsors children in different countries so that they can receive a better education and lead a healthy and prosperous life.

To conclude, I believe that everyone in the world is capable of helping others by some way or the other. Therefore, the statement about concerning with only own community and country is questionable.

3. Bài mẫu agree or disagree essay 3

Foreign visitors should pay more than local visitors for cultural and historical attractions. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

The idea that foreign tourists should pay more than locals to visit important sites and monuments is sometimes put forward. However, I completely disagree with this viewpoint.

Some argue that residents already contribute through taxes to the maintenance and preservation of cultural and historical sites. But, I think this is short-sighted. Tourists from overseas contribute significantly to the economy of the host country through their spending on a wide range of goods and services, such as food, souvenirs, accommodation, and travel. Therefore, governments and locals should be glad to support tourist sites and encourage foreign visitors to explore them.

If overseas visitors were charged higher prices to visit cultural and historical sites, it could discourage them from traveling to that country altogether. For example, in the UK, places like Windsor Castle and St. Paul’s Cathedral charge the same admission fee for all visitors, regardless of their nationality. This helps promote the country’s cultural heritage, and it is crucial for the tourism industry, which provides many jobs. If foreign visitors stopped coming, it would pose a risk to the maintenance and preservation of these important sites.

In summary, I believe that it is important to make an effort to attract foreign tourists, and it would be counterproductive to charge them more than locals to visit historical and cultural sites.

4. Bài mẫu agree or disagree essay 4

Universities should accept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In my view, equal educational opportunities should be available to both men and women. However, I don’t support the notion of having the same gender balance in all university subjects.

Attempting to achieve equal gender representation on all degree programs is unrealistic because the number of students in each course depends on the applications received by the institution. If universities attempted to enroll the same number of men and women in each course, they would require an equal number of male and female applicants. However, in reality, some subjects are more popular with one gender than the other, and it would be impractical to strive for equal proportions. For example, nursing programs are typically more popular among female applicants, and filling these courses with an equal number of males would be difficult.

Aside from the practical considerations mentioned above, it would also be unjust to base admission to university courses on gender. Universities should continue to select the most qualified candidates for each program, regardless of their gender. This way, both men and women will have the same opportunities, and applicants will know that their success will depend on achieving good grades and qualifications. If a female student is the most qualified candidate for a place on a program, it would be unfair to reject her in favor of a male candidate with lower grades or qualifications.

In conclusion, university admission decisions should be based on merit, and it would be both unfeasible and unjust to shift towards a selection process based on gender.

The growing number of overweight people is putting a strain on the health care system. Some people think that the best way to deal with this problem is to introduce more physical education lessons in the school curriculum

Owing to an increase trend of eating junk food, the problems regarding well being are increasing. The escalating rate of obesity related health issues is increasing the burden on the health care system. Many believe that the effective method of dealing with it is by incorporation of physical education lessons in the school curriculum. I completely agree with this statement.

Health related problems are increasing at an alarming rate. Such issues are putting a strain on the health care system. This can be solved by putting efforts in introducing these lessons in the curriculum of the institutes. By taking this long term approach, students will be compelled to adopt healthy activities. As an illustration, a recent survey suggests that almost 50% of school going children were motivated to do daily exercise to remain fit. As this fitness will eventually help them win medals in sports week. Therefore, they are compelled to leave sedentary lifestyle and adopt healthy habits.

Furthermore, introduction of physical education lessons in syllabus not only motivates children, but parents are also encouraged to choose healthy activities to set an example for children. In addition, these activities become part of children’s life. To Illustrate, in my boarding school it was mandated to do exercise daily. Now this activity is a necessary part of my life. This encourages me to keep my weight in a healthy range to stay smart. Hence, healthy activities in school at a younger age motivate people to continue them in later life.

To conclude, the increasing number of overweight people is putting a strain on the health care system. In an effort to solve such issues, many believe that introduction of physical education lessons into course of study is necessary. I completely agree with such statement.
